LIFEWHILE LOVES: SEPHORA'S SUSTAINABLE SIDE

styled makeup and fuschia flowers

Oh, Sephora. Such a beautiful black hole of makeup, skin care treatments and hair products. Try as we may, it's hard not to get overcome with frantic excitement at the site of all those glossy rows of products. One option? Let emotions take over and throw everything that catches your eye into your adorable little mesh basket. Then randomly release items one by one as you approach the checkout counter and become desperate to control yourself so as not to spend an entire pay check (if you're rolling your eyes, you're not Sephora'ing right...the struggle is real). But what if you went into Sephora with a game plan? What if your beauty budget could get you high-quality products that are also made from good-for-you ingredients by brands rooted in good-for-the-world values?

Voila! Here's our list of sustainable faves from the beauty superstore we love to (pretend to) hate.

1.) Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins™ Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream

If you've ever tried to track down high-end, Natural beauty products before, Origins has probably popped up on your radar. The plant-based line of makeup and skincare has always been committed to minimal, natural ingredients that are manufactured using a combination of sustainable practices including wind energy and renewable resources. This night cream has a low key citrus scent and leaves skin feeling luminous and hydrated. A little goes a long way!

2.) Jurlique Skin Balancing Face Oil

This little guy is a tad more expensive than we thought a face oil should be, but we're happy to report that the results make up for the price tag. First of all...in case we have any non-believers among us...let's get this out of the way: every skin type can benefit from facial oil, it's just about finding the right kind. The amazing news about this particular one is that it seems to deliver awesome, pillowy results on a variety of faces! From dry to combination, our experience was hugely positive. Why does Lifewhile love Jurlique? The botanical-based brand uses fair-trade suppliers and grows many of their natural ingredients themselves. They also plant thousands of trees every year. Did we mention we can't stop touching our faces after using this stuff?

3.) Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow

Josie Maran's signature ingredient, 100% Pure Argan Oil, harvested responsibly by co-ops of Moroccan women earning a living wage, is the brand's not-so-secret secret to its luxurious makeup and skincare products. This eyeshadow incorporates coconut water and oil to create a unique (and foolproof!) application process. Expect a highly pigmented but soft color, though it can easily be layered for a heavier look. Tip: use an eyeshadow primer beforehand for longer staying power!

4.) Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Tinted Pressed Finishing Powder

Finishing powder may not be a girl's best friend, but it should at least earn a spot in her squad. Finding the right powder to cap off your makeup can be the difference between looking put-together after devouring a Chipotle burrito and sweating your face off while walking your dog. One of Tarte's signature ingredients, Amazonian Clay, makes this super light, vitamin-infused powder a winner. The brand prides itself on creating products that are as pure as they are powerful, and this powder is a perfect example of their success.

This stuff works hard to give you soft, frizz-free hair you can easily work with. Its combination of moisture-rich oils and UV protection delivers potent but lightweight results. Briogeo's products and packaging are cruelty-free, and the brand is committed to eco-friendly, transparent ingredients.
